America’s Youngest CEO | Washington DC Wedding Photographer

Meet America’s Youngest CEO!

americas-youngest-ceo-dc-wedding-photographer

OK OK so he’s not quite a CEO yet but he is part of the name behind my business brand. Meet Clark Woods. That’s right, he is the “Clark” in Clark Bailey Photography. Bailey is still… well let’s just say not present at the time of roll call :). This little guy has changed my life from the moment we found out he was on the way. In spending so much time with him and observing how he interacts with everything and everyone, I thought it would be pretty cool to put together a list of things that as business owners we can learn from him. So here we go:

10 Baby rules for CEO’s:

1. Give love before you receive it.

2. Be blind to race or creed but open to all humanity.

3. Sometimes smile before you say a word. (or in his case, make a sound)

4. Focus on bringing joy to everyone around you.

5. Learn to appreciate the small things. (like playing with an empty bag of popcorn.

6. Learn that in order to function at peak performance, you MUST get plenty of rest.

7. Learn to listen before you speak.

washington-dc-wedding-photographer-destination-5

8. Wearing comfortable shoes around the office can make for such a better day.

washington-dc-wedding-photographer-destination-6

9. When something new happens (like your first snow), always try to find the good in it, even if it may be uncomfortable at first.

10. Always strive to let your life and success be a gift to someone else, not just at Christmas time.

Tye Tribbett, Fred Hammond, Vickie Winans | New Years Eve | DC Photographer

I am really excited to be posting this on the very first day of the new year. There are so many things that I am looking forward to this year that I cannot help but to be excited!! 2009 was a great year. I met so many new people and learned so much about myself and the photography industry as a whole. For 2010, I have set a good number of personal goals as well as goals for my business.

On New Years Eve my church, Spirit of Faith Christian Center, held it’s service at the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro Maryland. The place was PACKED!!! So much so that I think some folks were sadly turned away because the arena was at its capacity. This free NYE concert featured Grammy nominated artist Tye Tribbett, Grammy Award winning artist Fred Hammond, Grammy nominated artist Vickie Winans, and Stellar nominated artist 5AM Praise. It was incredible spending this time with family and close friends.

Below are a few photos from the evening. Last year I shot the event with my D200. Because of the constant changing lighting conditions, it was a little rough. This year the D700 was Rockin! I shot the entire event with my D700 and 70-200mm f/2.8 VR. I so love this camera. The images below are STRAIGHT OUT OF THE CAMERA. Nothing was adjusted. I only added the company watermark. Enjoy…

Tye Tribbett - This guys’ energy level is unbelievable!!! Red Bull and Monster should study him.

Operation Secret Squirrel | A Thanksgiving to Remember!!!!!

I attend Spirit of Faith Christian Center and today I had an INCREDIBLE opportunity to follow my Pastors around as they surprised several people at 3 community grocery stores. For the last few years, they have chosen, at random, people to have a 5 minute shopping spree for groceries! They can pile as much stuff as possible in their 1 cart and the church would foot the bill. For some people, Pastor Mike just walked up to the register and paid for whatever they already in their baskets. I lost track of just how many people were helped today. Off the top of my head, I would say about 10 folks in total. As you can see from the photos, some were over taken with emotion. There were some who were taking their rent money to buy food for their family, there were others that came to the store with just enough money to buy the items on their list. We were out for a total of about 5 hours. It felt like a TV show as we were in a 5 car caravan going from store to store. The highlight for me happened to be when one of the ladies who won the shopping spree came up and gave me a hug!!!

A THANK YOU HUG

Lanai Hawaii Wedding Photographer - The Flower Language

I have been intrigued about the selection of flowers that brides often use for their wedding for some time. I finally decided to take a little time to look into it and found some very interesting information. I had NO IDEA what flower language (also known as Floriography) happened to be until I started out on this little quest. As it turns out, flower language started during the Victorian Era as a way for couples to send each other passionate messages without going against the social etiquette. What was the social etiquette? I am glad you asked :) The social code during this time would not allow you to publicly tell the person you love your true feelings. The flower language became a way around this.

For this post I figure I would spotlight a flower that I often see at weddings, the Calla Lily. The Calla Lily represents magnificent beauty. It’s a reminder of past generations when grace and beauty were the rule. Calla Lilies help create sophisticated atmospheres which is why they stand out so well at weddings.

Recently I started venturing through some old digital photos that had been stored away. I came across a CD that contained images of me riding at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Ontario Canada. This trip happened in 2007 but I can still remember it like it was yesterday. It was an extremely long ride from Washington DC to Ontario but it was well worth it. I will say that it was a beautiful location, very quiet and the folks seemed pretty friendly.

On the morning of the track day, it was about 39 degrees when we left the house to head to the track. By the time we  actually started riding it was in the mid 40’s and topped out in the upper 50’s.

Calabogie Motorsports Park sits on 275 acres and is a very technical track. The front straight is only 2000 feet. On a 1000 cc motorcycle like mine, that is nothing!!! It consists of 20 turns in which over half of them are blind turns meaning you can’t really see the turn until you are up on it. You just pray that it didn’t move since the last time you came around LOL. It was definitely a track I would return to but because of the distance, I would have to do at least 2 days at the track. When you are learning a new track, one day is just not long enough. By the time things start clicking and you mentally start connecting all of the turns, the day is pretty much over. It’s funny thinking back on that time because I had only had my bike for about 7 months (I had sold my Suzuki GSX-R 600 the year before). From then until now, I have gotten so much faster! It only leaves to the imagination of what I could do at that track now.

Belize Wedding Photographer – Why Destination?

belize-wedding-photographer-1

Destination weddings are one of the top considerations for today’s couples looking for something to make their special day more unique. From my experience, the biggest concern is whether or not most of the immediate family will be able to make the trip to the desired location. Having a destination wedding can afford you with the opportunity to create some AMAZING wedding photographs. On my wish list for places to shoot around the world, Belize is ranking pretty high! My small bit of advice to the bride and groom is this, when considering your location remember the day is about you two and you will have your pictures forever!

feuza - awesome advice, I have only done 1 destination wedding and I loved itDecember 14, 2009 - 12:44 am
