Anyone that has known me prior to June 2007 knows that when it comes to mobile phones, I pretty much stop at nothing to have the latest and greatest. This stems from the fact that I have a back ground in IT and have always been the type to stay up on the latest technology. So with all of the buzz going on about the new 3.0 software update for the iPhone along with the launch of the iPhone 3G S today, I thought I would take some time to reflect on my cellular journey. Here is a list of phones that I recall having (some models may be hard to remember but here goes).
Mitsubishi (Verizon, first phone in 11th grade)
Ericsson (Sprint Spectrum)
**Square phone with the flip down mic** (Sprint)
Nokia 6100 series (AT&T)
Motorola i730 (Nextel)
Sidekick I (T-Mobile)
Sidekick II (T-Mobile)
PPC 6700 (Sprint, refurbed 2 times)
Blackberry 8800 World Edition (Sprint)
Apple iPhone 1st Generation
Apple iPhone 3G
The sad thing about this is I know for a fact I am forgetting about 4 phones in this list.
So what’s the big deal about the iPhone? Well for the first time I can truly say that I am very happy with this platform. It is very stable and when Apple release a new OS update, it’s like getting a new phone for free. So with the new 3G S phone coming out, I have been getting messages on Facebook, tweets from Twitter and phone calls as to whether or not I was upgrading. Simply put, I don’t think so. Obviously, right now Apple is in a cycle of releasing a new phone every year around June. I am almost sure there will be another iPhone or major upgrade coming out next year and the rumors have started that Verizon may get the phone as well. By that time I will be out of my contract with AT&T and will have a choice on staying or going to the new service provider. See what I didn’t say before was that with all of the phones I have had, many of the switching came with early termination fees because I had to have it…..I didn’t really but at the time I told myself that.
The iPhone is a phone that is constantly getting better because it is really under constant development. New applications to better our life come out just about everyday. For the first time I really feel like a have a small computer in my pocket. A claim that other mobile device manufactures like to use but can rarely deliver. I have the 16GB White 3G iPhone. Two days ago, I put on a new screen protector, purchased a white hard case and upgraded the software to 3.0. It really does feel like a new phone and I know I will be happy with the iPhone family for years to come.
